Happy New Year!!!!
I hope everyone enjoyed the break as much as I did!
What is happening now that we are back?
Reading:
In reading, we are working on response to literature.
Here are some questions to get you started.
" I wonder why......"
"It was interesting when...."
"The character that is most like me is....."
"If I were the character, I would....."
"The most important character is......because...."
"I predict that...."
"If I was the author, I'd change...."
"Do you think the title fits the book? Why or why not?
"Do you like the ending of the book? Why or why not? What do you think might happen next?"
Included in our unit on reader's response is a field trip!!! We are going to see the play If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. This is a really good show and I know the kids will have a great time!
Writing:
We will be writing non-fiction stories this nine weeks. Read as many non-fiction stories as you can and talk about the graphic features of these stories. How are they different from fiction stories? How are they the same? Your child will write an "All about me" story in class as well as a report on a chosen topic (more on this to come).
Math:
MONEY! MONEY! MONEY! Money of course is always a difficult unit. Please practice counting mixed coins and showing different amounts several ways. I will be posting a lot of websites for money coming soon. This nine weeks we will also cover adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers.
Social Studies:
We have started our unit on Lewis and Clark by going on an adventure quest yesterday. What fun! The students wore coon skin hats and wrote in their journals about all their new discoveries. Please look for a study guide to come home Friday for this unit. Next we will cover Harriet Tubman then George Washington Caver.
Science:
After we finish our unit on Lewis and Clark, we will be talking about sound, light, and shadows. This is always a fun unit with lots of experiments. At the end of the nine weeks we will cover magnets.
As you can see we have a lot going on this nine weeks. Keep checking back for updates and comments from our student bloggers!

'Tis the season for more learning....
I hope everyone is having as much fun as me getting ready for the winter season. I hope to have pictures of turkey projects up soon. (I keep forgetting my camera!) Watch the blog close over the next several weeks, I have a lot of really fun activities planned for the winter!! I can't wait to get pictures and kid reports on them. In the mean time, here are some more games for the kids to play at home.
