Welcome Parents!

Thank you for visiting our classroom blog!

Why do we have a classroom blog?
Here are just a few reasons:

1. Reading and writing are a major focus in my classroom.  Having said that, what better way to encourage writting that in the technological world our children live in daily?
2. We never have enough time in the class to review and discuss what we are learning.  This review is a vitial part of the students retaining new information.  This blog will allow students to review what they have learned in a fun and exciting new way!
3. Parent communication.  "It takes a village to raise a child".  It also takes communication.  However, communication should not just happen between the teacher and the parent.  The students can and should take responsiblity for some of that communication.
4. It is fun!

What will the students do?

2-4 students will be "bloggers" each week.  These students will be given time during morning work and afternoon bus call to blog.  Some days they will have "free blog time" to write about something they care about (school related).  Other times they will be answering questions that I have posted ahead of time.  In addition, bloggers will post up coming events that they feel are important for parents to know about.

What is your job?

For this to work, parents will need to check the blog often (at least once a week).  Your child should let you know when he/she is blogging so that you can make sure to check the blog more often that week.  When you read the blog feel free to ask questions back to the students or make positive comments!  This is where the reading comes in for the students.  They will need to help each other read your comments and questions to be able to respond to you.  I hope that by reading the blog you will have a better understanding of what is happening in our classroom.  With this understanding, I hope you have more converstations with your child about their learning. (This is part of the communication piece).

Who can read the blog?

Blogger is an internet based website and anyone can find and read this blog.  For the safety of your children, they will be asked to only sign their post with their initials. However, I do encourage you to get the whole family invovled aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc.  Mrs. Ledford and Dr. Grizzard will be checking in also.  Please speak with me if you have any questions!

Happy blogging!
